Explore Engadin Like A Pro: Tips for Biking in the Swiss Alps

There are many ways to explore Engadin, such as by joining a regular tour group. However, if you’re adventurous or looking for a different experience, we recommend discovering Engadin on a bike.

Cycling provides a more intimate way to discover the Swiss Alps. The Engadin is a cyclist’s dream, with more than 1,000 kilometers of natural trails, signposted routes, and dedicated hosts, making it one of the best biking destinations in the European Alps. The bike trails are carefully maintained, expanded, and modified, mostly by hand, to preserve the region's natural beauty. You’ll find plenty of first-class routes through mountains to take you through different geographical altitudes, from the alpine terrain to the valley.

There is something for every biker on an Engadin bike. But if you’re looking for suggestions on where to go, here are some tips to help you plan your trip and itinerary.

Don’t bring your own bike.

Companies are renting out eBikes and mountain bikes in Engadin. Make sure it’s a trustworthy and established rental company available 24/7 with secure locations for pick-up and return. Renting a bike is more practical, especially if you don’t have a vehicle or don’t want to lug your bicycle to the Swiss Alps.

Visit Chamonna Tuoi

Chamonna Tuoi is your starting point to climb Piz Buin, and it’s a 60-minute uphill ride from Guarda. However, you can stop at a SAC hut for traditional local food and refreshments. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen when climbing Piz Buin.

Explore the Swiss National Park

Europe’s oldest national park is only a 40-minute ride from Guarda on an Engadin bike.

Don’t hesitate to take public transport.

Some destinations may be too far and exhausting if you’re cycling. Many mountain bike tours start in St. Moritz, Kloster Davos, and Scuol, which you can reach by car or public transport. Try PostBus services, as they offer special equipment for transporting mountain bikes.

Know where the charging stations are.

Are you renting an eBike? Innovative charging stations are in Celerina, Samedan, Zuoz, and Bever.
